Puffin Island Rib ride tour

About the Trip The Puffin Island Trip show you the best of Anglesey’s heritage and wildlife. You’ll spot the beautifully bright houses of Beaumaris as you pull out from Beaumaris Pier and head towards the island. Along the way you’ll stop at places of interest such as lighthouses, shipwreck locations and caves where your skipper will fill you in on the fascinating history of the area and talk about Wales’ wonderful wildlife. Our expert skippers will navigate through the Sound before stopping at Penmon Point lighthouse, carrying on around the island and then stopping again to take in the seal colony and seal cave. Beautiful Benllech and Moelfre can be seen in the distance before a short coastal tour heading back. Although it’s called Puffin Island (or Ynys Seiriol in Welsh), you won’t just see puffins! Cormorants, guillemots, razorbills, shags, kittiwakes and other seabirds also call the island home. The unique currents of the Menai Strait provide the perfect conditions for certain species of fish which feed our large colony of seals. Grey seals can often be seen on our trips. Bottlenose dolphins and harbour porpoises also regularly visit the area and occasionally make an appearance for us too! Puffins spend most of the year in the open ocean, only returning to coastal areas in late spring to breed. These magnificent birds can usually be spotted from March/April to August but in some years they arrive earlier and leave later. With something in the region of 14 different species of birds calling Puffin Island home at various times of the year, you will see a wide variety of bird life although we can't guarantee what exactly you will see on your trip! The island is home to one of the largest cormorant colonies in the UK. On the way to and from the island you may also see terns and herring gulls, and perhaps a black guillemot these rare birds are not usually found this far south but there are a few pairs in the surrounding waters. Winter visitors to the island include eider duck and Canada geese which can sometimes be seen as late as May. On the way back to Beaumaris Pier, you’ll pick up some serious speed so hold onto your hats! Feel the power our of ribs during some turns, twists and tumbles both The Endeavour and Discovery provide a truly exhilarating and unforgettable ride. £35 per person.
