RYA Diesel Engine Course | Maidstone | Kent

About the course This course is designed to provide the basic knowledge of the workings of a diesel inbound engine, to be able to carry out basic engine checks and maintenance tasks. Course content The principles of diesel engine operation, the system and parts of the engine, fault finding, rectification of common problems, bleeding the fuel system, changing the impeller, routine maintenance and winter lay up procedures. Ability after the course To be able to diagnose basic mechanical problems and how to get it started again in the event of a breakdown. You should be able to bleed the engine, change fuel filters, air filters and belts. Previous experience or knowledge None required. Age limit 18 Course structure The course will start at 0900. There will be a 15-minute break mid-morning and a 45-minute lunch break. The day will end at approximately 1600. The course is on one day and is 6 hours in duration and there is no exam.

Meeting Point/Location

The course will be run from the First 4 Boat Training classroom in Allington Marina, Castle Road, Allington, Maidstone, ME16 0NH. The marina has a private road leading to a gated entrance, the classroom is on the first floor accessed by wide metal stairs. The marina has toilets and showers on site. If you have difficulty climbing approximately 10 stairs, please advise me immediately.
